Yumi,

Your passion is commendable and exactly what is needed. Thanks for going so far as to send out this letter to so many people. Let's hope it does some good. That's exactly what Louie Psihoyos was talking about when he said he wants this film to create a legion of activists.

As for the Sea Shepherd connection, as he says in the interview: "I know Paul Watson but I’m not a terrorist and I personally don’t subscribe to his methodology." So there you go.

I've been feeling sick knowing about the fact.. knowing about my ignorance.. knowing about it has been happening here in Japan and people were eating dolphins under the name of whales - nobody ever say so officially, but.. I just heard that here in Japan "dolphins" were also considered as "small whales" in the market... and it made sense to me finally why I had not known people here eat dolphins.. because it was covered under the name of whales...

Sick.. I do not eat whales but I feel sick..

I feel I am too ignorant to talk about this problem yet..

The stupid gov here only keep protecting the local industry.. yeah, sure because their lives depends upon the tax that fishermen pay.. but still this is cruel.. what a horrible thing they do.. and the way do.. It doesn't make sense to eat dolphins.. yeah, like you said, who wants to eat it?? only those people around the bay?? it really is only for money..

I am not sure how the movie is going to be like.. it's a sea shepherd's movie, right? Do you support them? I do not basically support them much because of the rather too aggressive way they do only to be provocative.. But as a movie, maybe interesting to see their thrilling activities? when enemy is so clearly stand out... and victim is so mercilessly helpless.. like this case.

Manny,

I am sending mails and link like below to my friends now.. esp to ones they appear on tv or have their tv/radio programs in Japan to talk about the movie..and also writing mails to members of the Diet now...btw did you know the Minister of ETI (economy, traid and industry) of present is from Wakayama? That is where Taiji is. Yuk.

The success of the movie in the US will help them afford to make Japanese version of it, too, I believe. Right? I'd like the success of the movie will move the Japanese gov and even Taiji people to considering to stop this coming septermebr hunting they do every year.

Yumi
(geez. I am so into this..?? but it breaks my hurt and I feel the urge of the need of taking my small actions..)
------

To whom it may concern:

I feel the urge of stopping this inhumane way of the dolphin slaughter happening every year in Japan for decades - yet I did not know of it until seeing the trailer of the movie - what a shame. "The Cove" http://thecovemovie.com/

I do not know why media in Japan do not tell us about this nor question the way they do?
There is something taboo or hidden behind? If it is a traditional way of killing, they have right to maintain the inhumane barbarous way of hunting to kill dolphins with so much suffering taking so long time to take their life away from their body?? - even to kill cattle for beef, they use a way to not make cattle suffer much..

Anyway, I am circulating this message to friends here. I feel that there should be other way to kill the dolphins even if that is the industry of the town and the traditional way of hunting.. and those fishermen should be aware enough the society here has been changed and people do not want to eat what they hunt much anymore.. - that is why they hide the name of "dolphin" under the name of "whales". nobody wants to eat mercury-rich meat. they can not fish other fish? have to be dolphins and whales to sustain their biz, I wonder?

Please please go to see the documentary movie, "The Cove" http://thecovemovie.com/ opening in the late of this month in the US (check the theatre near you from the link), and talk about it to your friends and family and help the movie crews make the Japanese version of it, because most of Japanese do not even know this fact ever at all and people here in Japan should know the truth nation wide and we need to move the Japanese gov to stop the inhumane slaughter.

The link below is a very shocking content, so please be aware of blood - I warn, but this is the terrible fact that is happening in Japan every year and they feed the local kids for the school lunch with mercury-rich dolphin meat, sell the dolphin meat in the market under the name of "kujira - whale", and I've decided to face and take actions and do my best to make them stop this September inhumane slaughter they do every year... This is terrible.

The success of the movie and the large voice from world will help them make the Japanese version of it and move Japanese gov.

Thank you for your time to be aware of it.
Yumi,

Great link. I'm thinking of how to make it bigger in Japan than just for HESO now. I'm also trying to get a copy over to Japan to do viewings with AITEN, though Louie said they are in talks with distributors, but who knows. The problem in Taiji is very serious and short-sighted. The fisherman say this is a part of the cultural heritage of Japan so they should be allowed to do it, but what is it really about...who eats dolphin these days?

Through my brief search/research on internet, I found that there are three places in Japan that are allowed to do this massive slaughter of dolphins still today, not just Taiji, Wakayama pref, but also Iki, Nagasaki and Futo in Ito, Shizuoka. –how ignorant I am, I haven’t known this till today at all personally.. :(

This link may be helpful to know more; (If u can read Japanese, the Japanese page contains more in details)
http://www.elsaenc.net/info_dolphin.html (in Japanese) http://www.elsaenc.net/eng/info_e_dolphinexp.htm (in English)

IMHO I do not believe this as a "cultural heritage" even tho it's been done in this way for decades – that is why I feel the need of stopping them rather – we all humans have been so barbarous for decades/hundreds in many many ways through wars and our stupidities.

However it has been true that dolphins have eaten out (dolphins do really eat a lot!) the fish farms around Japan islands and have been damaging their business in past and even today – this was the only purpose they started the slaughter in a cove at the beginning than selling dolphins to make extra money for entertainment or “show”(this is also our culture’s downside in a way, I feel), but I strongly want to say this simple thing to them – “Even tho to protect their farms, they NEVER have to kill the dolphins so massively in this merciless barbarous way!” - hearing the dolphins screaming breaks my heart and it shocked me so much..

From what I read, it seems like that Iki, Nagasaki has chosen, instead of killing dolphins, to scare them away with small bombs around their farms when the 100s of groups of dolphins try to attack their farms. There is a place even in this same country Japan that has chosen more civilized way, so what those small group of people in Taiji say is so wrong, I feel.

I hope the Japanese version of it comes out sooner.
